Prime Video has announced that Oscar-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville's documentary Man on the Run, based on the life and career of Paul McCartney of The Beatles fame, is set to release on the streamer on February 25 next year. The documentary will also have a limited theatrical run before its digital premiere. The film promises to offer an intimate exploration of McCartney's journey in the 1970s when he and his spouse, Linda, formed the 'Wings' band. After the disbandment of Wings, McCartney dealt with the challenges that come with building an identity for himself as an independent musician.

More specifically, Man on the Run chronicles McCartney's evolution after his exit from The Beatles with previously-unseen videos and rare materials from the archives. According to its makers, the documentary explores the singer's transformative years after his stint with The Beatles through a "uniquely vulnerable lens".

Amazon MGM Studios is presenting the film, and Tremolo is producing it in association with Polygram Entertainment and MPL. Neville is also producing it alongside Meghan Walsh and Chloe Simmons for the Tremolo banner. Producers also include David Blackman and Michele Anthony of Polygram Entertainment, as well as Ben Chappell and Scott Rodger of MPL.

Man on the Run marks the start of a partnership between McCartney, Amazon, and Universal Music Group that will continue to the end of next year. Besides exclusive music and special merchandise releases from McCartney, the partnership will also include commentary from the musician.

When it comes to feature films, McCartney is also the subject of a Sam Mendes directorial starring Paul mescal in the main role.
