Far Cry series to be developed by Fargo creator

Noah Hawley, who has created Fargo and Legion, is developing Far Cry along with Rob Mac, who has created It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

The latest video game to be adapted into the series format is Far Cry, which willl be developed by Hulu. Noah Hawley, who has created Fargo and Legion, is creating the series along with Rob Mac, the creator of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, who is also set to star.

Far Cry, is a first-person shooter game, and was first developed by Crytek and subsequently published in 2004. The first film followed the story of a former special forces soldier who must rescue a journalist from an island controlled by mercenaries.

Ubisoft later took over developing the rest of the games, in the main series, which consists of six games. The latest game Far Cry 6, was published in 2021. Giancarlo Esposito played a fascist dictator Anton Castillo, who seeks to bring up his son as the heir in face of revolutionaries.

The details of the story and the character for Rob Mac's character is yet to be revealed.

The upcoming series will not be the first live-action adaptation of Far Cry. In 2008, German director Uwe Boll made a film, which starred Til Schweiger, who is known for his performance in Quentin Tarantino's Inglorius Basterds.

Hawley's most recent work is Alien: Earth, which premiered in JioHotstar in August 2025. The series is the latest in the franchise, and is set two years before the story of the first film in franchise, Alien (1979).

Apart from Far Cry, other live-action adaptations of video games include a series adaptation of Assassin's Creed and a film adaptation of Call of Duty. Meanwhile the second season of Fallout, another video game adaptation, is set to premiere on Prime Video on December 17.
