The war between the Order of Assassins and the Knights Templar will be shown in streaming as Netflix announces that the video game series, Assassin's Creed, will be adapted as a TV series. The announcement comes after Netflix announced their partnership with the game's creator, Ubisoft.
The video game series, which started in 2007, went on to include events in history combined with fiction. The first five games revolved around the character of Desmond Miles, who is sent back to his ancestor's memories by the Abstergo Industries, a modern-day front for the Knights Templar.
Previous on-screen adaptations of the series include a 2009 short film that was made to promote Assassin's Creed: Lineage. Subsequently, Justin Kurzel adapted it as a full length feature with Michael Fassbender as Callum Lynch, who is sent back in time to his ancestor's memories, at the time of the Spanish Inquisition in the 15th Century. Kurzel reunited with Fassbender and Marion Cotillard after Macbeth (2016), in the film, which included Jeremy Irons, Brendon Gleeson, Charlotte Rampling, and Michael K Williams.
