Simu Liu is more than just ecstatic to reprise his role as Shang-Chi in Avengers: Doomsday, headlined by Robert Downey Jr as Doctor Doom. Apart from flexing his muscles as the titular hero, he will also be seen alongside an ensemble dream cast that brings together The Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers, and the X-Men.

In a recent interview, the Barbie actor opened up about his experience working with them and what fans can expect from the superhero film. "I mean, there are just so many actors in it, and getting to work with those people as peers is really incredible because I grew up watching so many of them," he told ScreenRant, adding that it would be akin to a "love letter to the entire genre of superhero movies." "And I think there’s something really fun about that," he said.

Liu also underlined how the film, directed by the Russo Brothers, would resonate for all "the misfits, weirdos and the underdogs" who grew up reading comic books. "it made them feel like there was hope for them somehow – that it didn’t matter if they didn’t fit in – I think there’s just always a special place in my heart for that entire genre," he added.

The upcoming film, written by Michael Waldron and Stephen McFeely, will feature all the above-mentioned heroes to square off against Doctor Doom. Apart from Simu Liu and Robert Downey Jr, the film's star cast includes Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Wyatt Russell, Tenoch Huerta Mejía, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Florence Pugh, Kelsey Grammer, Lewis Pullman, Danny Ramirez, Joseph Quinn, David Harbour, Winston Duke, Hannah John-Kamen, Tom Hiddleston, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, Channing Tatum, and Pedro Pascal.

Filming began in April and completed after five months of intense shoot that reportedly took place across England and Bahrain. Avengers: Doomsday will now be in post-production for 14 months, which is said to be a standard timeline for an Avengers film. This is the fifth installment in the Avengers film series following Avengers: Endgame (2019) and the 39th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

The two-part Avengers film, with the first being Avengers: Doomsday hits theatres on December 18, 2026, while its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars is slated for a release on December 17, 2027.
