Days after signing the deal for David Fincher's upcoming film based on Cliff Booth, alongside Brad Pitt, actor Carla Gugino has joined the cast of new horror film Winthrop where she will star opposite Lou Taylor Pucci. Based on the cult podcast Knifepoint Horror and the fan-favourite episode The Lockbox by Soren Narnia, the film is set to go on floors soon in Vancouver.

Daniel Stamm, best known for films like The Last Exorcism and Prey for the Devil helms the film which has a script written by Justin Yoffe.

According to the makers, Winthrop follows Gugino's character as she strives to protect her troubled, enigmatic cousin, Winthrop (Pucci) who is hunted by a powerful supernatural force.

The Knifepoint Horror podcast features an anthology of original standalone stories created by Narnia. After its launch in 2010, it gained cult following with millions of listeners.

Kearie Peak will back the film for Peak Pictures, alongside Capstone Studios. Peak shared in a statement, "Winthrop captures the eerie dread that makes Knifepoint Horror such a success. Carla Gugino is a perfect fit for the film, bringing a rare intensity and subtlety that aligns perfectly with the silent horror of Winthrop. Beneath the supernatural tension, the film explores how generational trauma festers and twists over time. It’s horror with weight, and it stays with you."

Gugino was last seen in The Friend, written and directed by Scott McGehee and David Siegel which was released last year. Up next, she is awaiting the release of the action comedy Heads of State where she will star alongside an ensemble cast consisting of John Cena, Idris Elba, Priyanka Chopra, Jack Quaid, Paddy Considine, and Stephen Root.
