Newly surfaced death certificates have provided further clarity on the fatal attack that claimed the lives of Rob and Michele Reiner. Official documents list the cause of death for both as “multiple sharp force injuries”, categorising the case as a “homicide” committed “with a knife, by another”.

Issued by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and obtained by TMZ, the records note that the interval between the start of the assault and the couple’s deaths lasted only “minutes”. Rob Reiner’s body was pronounced discovered at 3:45 pm, followed by Michele Reiner’s a minute later at 3:46 pm. However, the exact time and date of death are recorded as “unknown”.

The couple was found deceased in their Brentwood residence on Sunday, December 14. Their son, Nick Reiner, has since been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with their deaths. Should he be convicted, he could see either the death penalty or life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. He has not yet entered a plea, and his next court appearance is scheduled for January 7.

The grim discovery was made by the Reiners’ daughter, Romy, who arrived at the home with a friend after growing concerned. Alarm was raised when the couple failed to respond to a scheduled visitor via the home’s security buzzer. A 911 call placed at approximately 3:38 pm PT, on the first night of Hanukkah, prompted emergency responders and police to rush to the scene.

In a statement released earlier this week, the Reiners’ children confirmed that plans are underway to honour their parents. “Jake and Romy Reiner remain grateful for the outpouring of love and support they have received,” the statement read, adding that details of a memorial service would be shared at a later date.
