The who's who of Hollywood has expressed deep reverence for filmmaker Rob Reiner, who passed away recently alongside his wife Michelle in what is suspected to be a homicide incident. Demi Moore, who played Lieutenant Commander Joanne Galloway in Reiner’s A Few Good Men, led the tributes with a heartfelt note on social media. Moore took to Instagram and said that she is at a loss of words to describe “the unfathomable devastation of losing Rob and Michelle Reiner.” Moore also discussed the deep connection between her family with the Reiners. “Our kids grew up together, we worked together, and as our lives intertwined personally and professionally I will always cherish the moments and memories of what we shared. They were amazing people and wonderful parents who gave of themselves to make the world a better place,” Moore wrote. She also offered her condolences to everyone on whom the Reiners’ tragic loss made an impact.
On the other hand, Kevin Bacon, who portrayed Captain Jack Ross in A Few Good Men, also offered his thoughts at the filmmaker’s passing. Expressing his gratitude to Reiner for offering him a role in the aforesaid film, Bacon said that he was “over the moon” to receive the offer because it came from the director of This is Spinal Tap, his “all-time favorite movie”. Bacon praised Reiner for making the shooting experience fun, safe and memorable. “We had lunch together, and I’d never done that with a director before,” said an emotional Bacon as his voice started to break.
Meanwhile, Zooey Deschanel, who starred alongside Reiner on the TV series New Girl, remembered her co-star. She described him as “the warmest, funniest, most generous of spirits. A truly good human being. An incredible artist and such a playful and fun collaborator.” Deschanel said that many of director Reiner's films shaped her identity as well. “Rob and his lovely wife Michele were always so kind and it brought me so much joy any time I was lucky enough to see them. I’m absolutely devastated. Sending so much love to their family and friends,” Deschanel concluded.
On the other hand, The Beatles singer Paul McCartney recalled his time working with Reiner on the sequel to This is Spinal Tap. “What a tragedy the death of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, is. It is so shocking in many ways but for me especially so, because over the last year I had been working with him. He directed me in Spinal Tap II: The End Continues,” McCartney wrote. Describing Reiner as “an upbeat, lovable man,” McCartney talked about how the filmmaker carried his father Carl Reiner's legacy. “His father, Carl Reiner, was a great humourist before him and Rob followed in his dad’s footsteps doing a terrific job making many great films. I will always have fond memories of Rob and the idea that he and his wife will no longer be in the world with us is heartbreaking. Thanks for all the humour, Rob. Rest in Peace. Love Paul.”
Michael Douglas, who starred in director Reiner's And So It Goes and The American President, conveyed his thoughts on the filmmaker and his spouse’s passing with a brief note on Instagram. “A most tragic situation for two extraordinary people who gave so much to make a better world. Rob and Michele Reiner will be deeply missed,” Douglas wrote.
