Filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, have been found dead at their home in Los Angeles, according to reports late Sunday. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths, with no official statement yet from the LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division.
Initial reports indicated that two bodies were discovered at a residence in the Brentwood area earlier in the day. Entertainment site TMZ later reported that law enforcement sources had identified the deceased as Reiner and his wife. The outlet further claimed that the bodies showed injuries described as lacerations consistent with a knife, though these details have not been formally confirmed by police.
As of now, investigators have not publicly released information regarding suspects or a possible motive. A separate report by People magazine cited unconfirmed claims involving the couple’s son, Nick Reiner, but this information has not been verified by authorities, and police have not commented on it.
Rob Reiner was a towering figure in American film and television. He first became a household name in the 1970s as Mike “Meathead” Stivic on the landmark sitcom All in the Family. The son of legendary comedian and writer Carl Reiner, he later built an influential career behind the camera.
Reiner made his directorial debut with the cult classic mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap in 1984 and went on to helm a string of defining films, including Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery, and A Few Good Men, the latter earning him an Academy Award nomination. As an actor, he also appeared in films such as Sleepless in Seattle, Bullets Over Broadway, EDtv and The Wolf of Wall Street.
He met Michele Singer, a photographer, while working on When Harry Met Sally in the late 1980s. The couple married in 1989 and shared three children. They had lived in their Brentwood home for several years. Further details are expected as the investigation continues and authorities release official findings.
