Avatar: Fire and Ash is continuing its victory run at the box office by registering over $300 million at the global box office during its opening weekend. By amassing over $345 million, the film has become the third-highest opening this year after Zootopia 2 ($560.3 million) and and China’s animated movie Ne Zha 2 ($431.2 million). According to reports, all the three Avatar films have now collectively earned over $5.6 billion to date.
However, the numbers are yet to match up to Way of Water as it minted $134.1 million on its opening day in the US. Globally, it made $441 million during the first three days. Out of the $345 million in global opening in its first weekend, $257 million came from overseas markets. It was the top Hollywood opener in many countries including France, Germany, Spain and Korea as well as many smaller markets. China also collected $57.6 in its opening weekend. Europe alone made over $109.4 million.
Despite the thunderous response in global box office for Avatar: Fire and Ash, Zootopia remains miles ahead in terms of revenue with over $1.27 billion in collections. The dip in response seems to be connected with mixed reviews for the film.
Returning for Avatar: Fire and Ash, are Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Britain Dalton, Trinity Bliss, Jack Champion, Bailey Bass, and Kate Winslet. Oona Chaplin, known for playing Talisa Maegyr in Game of Thrones, is portraying the antagonist Varang, the leader of the Ash People. David Thewlis, who is known for playing Remus Lupin in the Harry Potter franchise, playing Peylak in the film.
Our CE review of the film read, "It is this audacity of the filmmaker that becomes the relentless pulse that still beats life into this ever-expanding story. The biggest strength of Avatar is that it stirs the ancient instinct in the back of our minds to find the perfect world, where rocks float, plants light up in the dark, animals talk to you, and connecting with others is as simple as tethering the neural fibres growing out from the back of your head."
