Hugh Jackman is reading an engaging whodunit mystery story to his much-loved flock of sheep. Before revealing the killer, he pauses and leaves for the day to his caravan, and his sheep collectively groan and say, "Ugh, why would he stop there." There begins the story of The Sheep Detectives, a murder-mystery in itself where Jackman's beloved sheep join hands to solve and avenge his murder.

The over two-minute-long trailer also sees the sheep heading to unknown pastures and roads to figure out clues and find his murderer. "When a mysterious incident disrupts life on the farm, the sheep realise they must become the detectives. As they follow the clues and investigate human suspects, they prove that even sheep can be brilliant crime-solvers," reads the plotline.

Directed by Kyle Balda, the film also stars Nicholas Braun, Nicholas Galitzine, Molly Gordon, Hong Chau, Emma Thompson, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bryan Cranston, Chris O’Dowd, Regina Hall, Patrick Stewart, Bella Ramsey and Rhys Darby.

Balda, known for Minions: The Rise of Gru makes his live-action directorial debut from a script written by Craig Mazin. The film is based on author Leonie Swann’s 2005 novel, Three Bags Full and backed by Lindsay Doran, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner.

The Sheep Detectives is set to release in theatres on 8 May, 2026.

Hugh Jackman, who was last seen in alongside Deadpool & Wolverine alongside Ryan Reynolds, will next be seen in Song Sung Blue, directed by Craig Brewer.
