Hugh Jackman's upcoming film, Song Sung Blue, is described as full of 'faith and hope', by the star. Jackman alongside Kate Hudson, stars as as Lightning and Thunder, a Neil Diamond tribute band, in Song Sung Blue.
"It’s a working-class fairytale. You’ve got two working-class people trying to get by, working two or three jobs, all the while harboring this dream to be up there on stage, where they feel most alive," said Jackman. He added, "It’s a fairytale because they hold their dream so tightly and with so much faith and hope and confidence that it comes true. But it's not a straight line to fame and success."
Song Sung Blue is written and directed by Craig Brewer, who has previously directed Dolemite Is My Name (2019) and Coming 2 America (2021). Speaking about Song Sung Blue, Brewer said, "I remember so clearly thinking that this is the kind of story that, if ever I were given a chance, I would understand how to make into a movie for a mass audience. Because as much as I know that there's plenty of moments in the movie that one could call tragic, I still felt very inspired by their love story. I felt a connection not only to the characters, but to the filmmaker who made the movie."
Jackman and Hudson, star as Mike Sardina and Claire Sengl (later Claire Sardina), respectively, who went on to perform Neil Diamond songs, as Lightning and Thnder, in Song Sung Blue. The film is set to release in theatres on January 9, 2026.
