Sydney Sweeney has no regrets. The noted actor, who recently faced heavy backlash for selling soap made from her bathwater, has responded to the issue, stating that she does not regret her decision.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, she recalled the frenzy surrounding her limited-edition bathwater-infused soap 'Bathwater Bliss' that got sold out within seconds of release. She partnered with men’s grooming brand Dr. Squatch to launch the soap.
Reacting to the criticism she received for her soap, the Emmy-nominated actor said it was "mainly the girls" who made comments about her bathwater soap.
Sweeney who feels that it's important to have a "finger on the pulse of what people are saying", compared herself to her Euphoria co-star Jacob Elodi and pointed at how everyone "loved the idea of Jacob Elordi’s bathwater". She was refering to the viral bathtub scene from Saltburn, directed by Emerald Fennell where Barry Keoghan’s character drinks the bathwater of Elordi's character.
During the soap's release in 2024, Sweeney said in a statement, "When your fans start asking for your bathwater, you can either ignore it or turn it into a bar of Dr. Squatch soap. It's weird in the best way, and I love that we created something that's not just unforgettable, it actually smells incredible."
Following the controversy, Sweeney also faced backlash for her viral jeans advertisement for American Eagle where she made a point to emphasise "genes" for jeans sparked criticism. "Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality and even eye color. My jeans are blue," she said, with many social media users pointing out that it subtly promotes eugenics and Nazi propaganda. American Eagle responded by saying, "Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story. We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone."
On the work front, the actor was last seen in Echo Valley opposite Julianne Moore, Domhnall Gleeson, Kyle MacLachlan, and Fiona Shaw. Up next, she has a slew of notable films including the biopic on former professional boxer Christy Martin, Paul Feig's psychological thriller The Housemaid and the upcoming third season of Euphoria.
