Filmmaker Zach Cregger's zany horror film, Weapons, has opened to rave reviews, which contributed to it earning a whopping $70 million at the worldwide box office, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In the US, it earned around $42 million. Overseas, Weapons also led the race with a strong $27.5 million opening, pushing its global debut to a stunning $70 million. The total box office collection for Weapons reportedly came in more than $10 million above expectations, marking another success this year for New Line Cinema’s parent organisation Warner Bros Pictures. The film's plot follows a group of teenagers who disappear into a mysterious place at midnight. The cast includes the likes of Josh Brolin and Julia Garner, among others.

In India, the film has grossed a little over 3 crore in its first three days. The film has received plenty of appreciation for its nonlinear structure and effective use of jump scares. Much like Cregger's previous horror film Barbarian, Weapons have profound themes that speak to the elementary human condition, such as trauma.

This opening makes Weapons the seventh Warner Bros Pictures release of 2025 to open in first place in the US, an unrivaled feat. It is also the studio's sixth consecutive film to debut with more than $40 million in the US, another record the studio now holds.
