Actor Shanthnu took to social media to announce that his next film will be titled Oru Kaidhiyin Diary. The upcoming film will be written and directed by Suseenthiran, with actor-politician Seeman on board the film's cast.
The title, Oru Kaidhiyin Diary, is a reference to the 1985 film of the same name which was written by Shanthnu's father, K Bhagyaraj, who passed away on June 27. Shanthnu, who announced the film and released the motion poster through his X handle also wrote, "With the blessings of my father, a new beginning."
The motion poster of the film revealed that the film is set in Madurai, in 2001, with Shanthnu as a police officer. Shanthnu's character is shown to be investigating the murder of man hacked to death by Seeman's character, in front of the local Registrar's Office. Discussion around capital punishment is hinted at playing a role in the plot.
Sam CS is composing music for the upcoming film, which will be backed by Kannan Ravi who is producing under his Kannan Ravi Productions banner. Deepak Ravi is serving as a co-producer. Further details on the cast and crew are yet to be announced.
The 1985 film was directed by Bharathiraja, and featured Kamal Haasan as a newly released prisoner who sets out to exact revenge against those who led to his wrongful imprisonment. Bhagyaraj later made the film in Hindi as Aakhree Raasta (1986), which was headlined by Amitabh Bachchan.
Shanthnu, who was last seen in Balti (2025), is set to return to Tamil cinema with Oru Kaidhiyin Diary, after Blue Star (2024). Seeman was last seen in the Vignesh Shivan-Pradeep Ranganathan film, Love Insurance Kompany (LIK). Meanwhile, Suseenthiran's latest release was the comedy drama, 2K Love Story (2025).
