Actors Ben Foster, Manny Jacinto and Fiona Shaw are set to star in the upcoming absurdist Western comedy The Stalemate. The film is directed by debutant filmmaker Nicholas Arioli who has also written the script for it.
The film, which is currently shooting in Santa Fe, New Mexico, revolves on a robber (Jacinto) and a sheriff (Foster) who, stranded without ammunition and miles from civilization, are forced to navigate an increasingly absurd and relentless pursuit across the Old West.
The film is being bankrolled by Molly Conners and Amanda Bowers of Phiphen Studios, Andrew Bosworth of Warden Shortbow, and Warden Shortbow. Richard J Berthy, Jane Sinisi, Linda L Berthy, Wilson Rivas and Alex Spatt of Phiphen, Serkan Piantino, Emma Thorne, Annabel Teal, Foster, Christine Yi and Brian Nemes of Gold House, Jimmy Price and Javier Gonzalez serve as executive producers. A release date is yet to be announced by the makers
Recognised for his roles in Hell or High Water, Leave No Trace, and 3:10 to Yuma, Foster is set to appear alongside Sydney Sweeney in David Michôd’s upcoming biopic about boxer Christy Martin. He recently completed filming Motor City, in which he stars with Shailene Woodley.
Jacinto, who gained prominence through his leading role on NBC’s The Good Place, was most recently featured in the Star Wars series The Acolyte. His upcoming projects include Freakier Friday, co-starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis and set for an August 8 release, as well as the indie romantic comedy Love Language.
Shaw, recently featured in John Krasinski’s film IF, as well as acclaimed series like Bad Sisters (Apple TV+) and True Detective: Night Country (HBO), has two films scheduled for release later this year: Hot Milk, directed by Rebecca Lenkiewicz, and Apple’s Echo Valley, in which she stars with Julianne Moore and Sydney Sweeney.
The director is an engineer-turned-filmmaker who has previously helmed the critically acclaimed and award-winning animated short Coin Operated.
