A RoboCop show is in the works at Amazon MGM Studios, and the company has chosen Peter Ocko as its showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Ocko is known as the writer of series such as Dinosaurs, Pushing Daisies, Dead Like Me, Black Sails, Lodge 49, The Office, and as the creator of the AMC show Moonhaven.
James Wan, known for his Saw, Insidious, and The Conjuring franchises, is also onboard as its producer. Wan will produce it through his banner Atomic Monster, alongside its members Rob Hackett and Michael Clear serving as executive producers.
The official logline for the show reads, “A giant tech conglomerate collaborates with the local police department to introduce a technologically advanced enforcer to combat rising crime — a police officer who’s part man, part machine.”
The show has been in its early phase of development ever since Amazon's acquisition of MGM a couple of years ago.
For the uninitiated, the RoboCop franchise started with the 1987 film featuring Peter Weller in the titular role. Weller reprised his role in the 1990 film RoboCop 2, and Robert Burke played it in the final sequel released three years later. A Joel Kinnaman starrer reboot also hit theatres in 2014, and there have been two RoboCop animation shows and as many live-action series.
