Oscars 2024: Holly Waddington wins Best Costume Design for Poor Things

Other contenders in the category were Barbie, Oppenheimer, Napolean and Killers of the Flower Moon

Holly Waddington has bagged the Oscars for Best Costume Design for working in Yorgos Lanthimos' directorial Poor Things starring Emma Stone in the lead.

The costume designer contended with Jacqueline Durran for Barbie, Jacqueline West for Killers of the Flower Moon, Janty Yates and Dave Crossman for Napoleon and Ellen Mirojnick for Oppenheimer.

John Cena, appeared nearly naked to present the award to Waddington. On receiving the award, the costume designer thanked her cast for wearing whatever she threw at them. She has previously worked in Lady Macbeth (2016) and War Horse (2011).

John Cena was only wearing Birckenstock footwear and a large envelope carrying the winner's name. With the look, he made a statement about how important it was for costume design, making the audience erupt with laughter.

Based on Alasdair Gray’s 1992 eponymous novel, Emma Stone's Poor Things bagged 4 awards at the Oscars including Best Actress, Best Makeup and Hairstyling and Best Production Design. The film was nominated in 11 categories.

This year's Oscars was led by Oppenheimer, which won 7 awards. The list of Academy Award wins for Oppenheimer includes Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, and Best Actor.
