Earlier, we reported that Maggie Gyllenhaal is directing a Bride of Frankenstein retelling titled The Bride, starring Christian Bale as its lead actor, and that it would release on October 3, 2025. However, the makers of the film have pushed its release ahead to September 26, 2025. As a result, it will clash at the box office with Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie and Saw XI. Apart from Bale, the film stars Jessie Buckley, Jake Gyllenhaal, Penélope Cruz, Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening, Julianne Hough, Jeannie Berlin, and John Magaro.

James Whale directed The Bride of Frankenstein, the 1935 film that tells the story of how Frankenstein's scientist creator, Victor Frankenstein, aided him in making a companion for him. The Gyllenhaal directorial closely follows the storyline of the original, with Bale playing Frankenstein. It marks Gyllenhaal's cinematic followup to The Lost Daughter, the Oscar-nominated Netflix film. Gyllenhaal directed the film based on her own screenplay. She also produced it with Osnat Handelsman-Keren and Talia Kleinhendler, two of her collaborators on The Lost Daughter, and Emma Tillinger Koskoff.
