Lucasfilm has cancelled The Acolyte, the Star Wars series, after its first season. The news comes shortly after the full release of its first season on Disney+ Hotstar. It also comes as Lucasfilm’s show The Mandalorian carries on its successful run and after the renewal of its other Star Wars show Ahsoka. Creator Leslye Headland's series got mixed reviews from the critics and Star Wars admirers had a split opinion about it.
Described as a "mystery thriller", the show, starring Amandla Stenberg in the lead, is set in a galaxy with shady secrets and dark powers emerging in the twilight of the High Republic period. While an erstwhile Padawan comes back together with her Jedi Master and looks into a group of criminal activity, the forces that they encounter are far more harmful than they had expected.
Besides Stenberg, the show stars Lee Jung-jae, Jodie Turner-Smith, Manny Jacinto, Rebecca Henderson, Dafne Keen, Dean-Charles Chapman, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Charlie Barnett.
