Five Nights at Freddy's sequel in the works at Universal, release window revealed

Universal recently announced that a sequel to the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's is in the making. The news was revealed at CinemaCon which took place at Las Vegas where the makers said it will be released in the fall of 2025.

Five Nights At Freddy's, which was released in theatres and on Peacock on October 27, 2023, stars Josh Hutcherson, Matthew Lillard, Mary Stuart Masterson, Elizabeth Lail and Kat Conner Sterling. The film is produced by Jason Blum and Scott Cawthon.

The film is the first live-action adaptation of the hugely popular video game series that has become a merchandising monolith over the years. The film turned out to be a huge financial success for Blumhouse and Universal, earning nearly $300 million worldwide.

The Five Nights sequel comes as both video game movies and TV shows are having a moment, with titles such as The Super Mario Bros. Movie and the Sonic the Hedgehog films performing strong at the box office, and TV shows like The Last of Us and Fallout earning critical acclaim.
