Shakira slams Barbie, says she finds it 'emasculating men'

CE Features

Singer Shakira came down heavily on Greta Gerwig's Barbie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.

The 'Hips Don't Lie' singer felt the movie emasculates men. She said she believes in empowering women while not diminishing men's role in society.

She said her nine-year-old and eleven-year-old sons too hated the movie for this aspect.

Shakira added that she wants to raise her boys empowered while respecting women. "I like pop culture when it attempts to empower women without robbing men of their possibility to be men, to also protect and provide," she further said.

The movie, bankrolled by Warner Bros, went on to win Oscars for Best Original Song 'What Was I Made For'. It was also nominated under Best Film, Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor categories.

Barbie, which released alongside Oppenheimer last year, turned out to be a huge box-office success collecting over $1 Billion globally.
