Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland faces domestic violence charges

Justin Roiland, the co-creator of the adult animated series Rick and Morty, is facing domestic violence charges. The felony domestic charges filed in Orange County, California is in connection to an incident that took place in 2020. He appeared in court yesterday for the hearing.

The complaint is given by an anonymous female who is said to have been dating Roiland when the incident happened. The charges involve domestic battery with corporal injury along with false imprisonment by menace/violence, fraud, and/or deceit.

Apart from creating the show with Community-fame Dan Harmon, also voices the titular characters in the show. In response to the charges, Justin Roiland’s attorney, T. Edward Welbourn said, “We look forward to clearing Justin's name and helping him move forward as swiftly as possible.”

According to reports, a restraining order has been filed against Roiland by an anonymous individual, due to which he cannot legally come within 100 feet of the alleged domestic violence victim. The order lasts until October 2023
