The first trailer of Snake Eyes: GI Joe Origins premiered today. The film, a spinoff of the G.I. Joe film series, is the third instalment in the franchise after G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and GI Joe: Retaliation.

Henry Golding, best known for his performances in Crazy Rich Asians and The Gentlemen, is stepping into the shoes of the titular character, Snake Eyes, a superhero in the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero franchise. Actor Ray Park portrayed the character in the first two live-action films.

The reboot, which explores the origins of the character, promises generous doses of eye-popping action sequences. Samara Weaving, best known for her role in the 2019 horror-comedy Ready or Not, is portraying Scarlett, replacing Rachel Nichols who donned the superhero avatar in the original film.

Directed by Robert Schwentke, whose filmography includes high-budget action flicks such as the 2013 film RIPD and two instalments in the Divergent series, Snake Eyes is scheduled to hit screens on July 23.
