Netflix India has released the trailer for Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare. Directed by Alankrita Shrivastava, the film stars Konkona Sen Sharma and Bhumi Pednekar as two rebellious cousins in North India.

Kajal aka Kitty (Bhumi) moves in with her cousin sister and brother-in-law in Greater Noida. There, she takes up a job at a mobile befriending service. Dolly (Konkona), meanwhile, is stuck in a futile marriage, which is complicated further when her husband makes passes at Kitty. Along the way, the sisters take up lovers — played by Amol Parashar and Vikrant Massey — and become allies in each other’s journeys.

Much like her last film, Lipstick Under My Burkha (2017), Alankrita spins a tale of quiet empowerment and solidarity, while capturing the details of middle-class life. Sexual liberation, once again, seems key to the story.

Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare is a story with these two quirky, layered characters at its heart - Dolly and Kitty,” the writer-director shared. “The two cousins are trying to break through many visible and invisible shackles to live life on their own terms. It's a film with a light and fun tone! And although entirely fictional, the film, for me, is very personal and there is a certain truth about the bond Dolly-Kitty share.”

Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare premieres on Netflix on September 18.
