Salman Khan's Bharat teaser breakdown

Shilajit Mitra

Bhaijaan is back. The teaser of Bharat — starring Salman Khan as the titular protagonist and directed by Ali Abbas Zafar — was released on Saturday. The film is an official adaptation of the 2013 South Korean Drama, Ode To My Father. Katrina Kaif, though amiss in the teaser, plays the female lead in the film.

The teaser opens with the scene of a crowded railway station in what appears to be Partition-era India, showing us a glimpse of the childhood version of Salman Khan’s character. We then see the actor in flesh — as he walks up a spiralling circus ramp and jumps onto a stunt bike, emerging from the other end into a colourful ring of fire. Bharat tells us, via voiceover, that his father had named him after his great country —  which is why he refrains from mentioning his caste, creed and religion to anyone who might ask. The 1 minute 27 second teaser also includes glimpses of middle-eastern oil mines, lavish marine trawlers, and a shot of Salman buffeting a punching bag, leaving us guessing about the journey of Bharat’s life and that of his nation.

Bharat is co-produced by Salman Khan Films and Atul Agnihotri’s Reel Life Production. The supporting cast includes Jackie Shroff, Disha Patani, Sunil Grover and Tabu. The film is scheduled to release on EID, 2020.
