The much-anticipated teaser of Kangana Ranaut’s magnum opus, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, was unveiled today. The teaser opens with a voice-over by Amitabh Bachchan introducing the period setting of the film. We then see Kangana as Rani Laxmibai as she slices through a British Flag and engages in fierce battle with the invading oppressors. The teaser features grand production design and sprawling war scenes, with Kangana leading the ranks as a powerful warrior queen.

Initial reports about Manikarnika had suggested that director Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi (popularly known as Krish) had walked out of the film due to creative differences. There were also allegations that Kangana had taken over directing duties and was reshooting the film. However, as asserted by the closing credits of the teaser, Krish has been credited as the director of the film.

Talking about the teaser, producer Kamal Jain says, "We are delighted to present the teaser of Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi. Rani Lakshmibai was not only a great warrior and an important part of our Independent struggle but also a fascinating person and through this biopic we will be showing her journey. It is truly a one-of-its-kind film and with this teaser people will be able to get a small glimpse of that".

The action sequences are done by Hollywood action choreographer Nick Powell. The film also stars Ankita Lokhande, Jisshu Sengupta, Zeeshan Ayyub, Danny Dengzongpa, Atul Kulkarni and Taher Shabbir in pivotal roles.

Produced by Zee Studios and Kamal Jain, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi is slated for release on Republic Day, 2019.
