The action-packed trailer of Aditya Dhar's upcoming military drama, Uri: The Surgical Strike, was released today. The film is based on the 2016 surgical strike conducted by the Indian Army against Pakistan in retaliation for the Uri attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. Vicky Kaushal plays the role of the commander-in-chief who led the operations, while Yami Gautam portrays an Indian Intelligence officer, and Paresh Rawal plays the role of National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval. The film also stars Kirti Kulhari and Mohit Raina.

Produced by Ronnie Screwvala under his banner RSVP Movies, Uri: The Surgical Strike marks the directorial debut of Aditya Dhar. The film was extensively shot in Siberia — made to resemble the Indo-Pak border and other military and terrorist areas — and was wrapped up in Mumbai.

Vicky Kaushal won critical acclaim in 2018 for his roles in Raazi, Sanju and Manmarziyaan. The up-and-coming actor is the elder son of veteran action director Sham Kaushal. Vicky's younger brother, Sunny, made his acting debut in the sports drama film, Gold

Uri: The Surgical Strike is scheduled for release on January 11.
