Ram Charan is gearing up for the release of his long-delayed film Peddi, which is slated for June 04, Thursday. Ahead of its release, the makers of the film had a promotional event on Saturday night. At the event, Ram Charan spoke about the sports-themed film and what the makers want to achieve with it.
Speaking to a jam-packed crowd, the actor said that Peddi aims to instill an aspiration for the Olympics in young children of India. The actor portrays an athlete, a cricketer, and a wrestler in the upcoming film, directed by Buchi Babu Sana.
At the Peddi promotional event, Ram Charan also spoke about popular cricketers in India, such as Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma. He called Sachin's journey in cricket 'long' and 'legendary,' Dhoni "calm and cool," and Rohit "everybody's man." The actor used the word 'fire' to describe what Virat Kohli means to him.
However, Ram Charan courted some backlash for describing Jasprit Bumrah as a footballer. Subsequently, he took to social media and apologised for what he described as a lapse in memory. "I’m genuinely so forgetful with names sometimes. Apologies to Jasprit Bumrah Ji for the mix-up – it was a genuine human error in the middle of all the excitement and the crowd. I truly respect you and I am a huge fan of your game. You make every Indian feel proud when you consistently put batsmen on the back foot," the actor wrote in his apology.
Coming back to Peddi, the makers recently dropped a trailer, offering a look at Ram Charan's characters in the film and giving a glimpse into its plot. Produced by Venkata Satish Kilaru, the film also stars Janhvi Kapoor, Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyenndu, and Boman Irani, among others.
