Indian cinema witnessed a major transformation after the release of Baahubali. Directed by SS Rajamouli, the film created a new benchmark for Indian films globally and made Prabhas a household name not only in India but across several countries.
Ten years after Baahubali: The Beginning changed the landscape of Indian cinema, Prabhas continues to be one of the biggest Pan-India stars. The film broke several box office records and turned the actor into a global phenomenon.
With the release of Baahubali: The Torch Bearer, Prabhas spoke about the unimaginable impact of the iconic character and how the film crossed borders, languages, and cultures. He recalled some memorable experiences that made him realise the worldwide reach of the film.
“I have had people come up to me in Italy and say my name. Even in Peru, where I had gone for some charity work, kids told me how much they loved Baahubali. After Baahubali, the effect was madness,” said Prabhas.
The actor also shared an interesting incident involving director SS Rajamouli. “Someone in Norway went up to Rajamouli sir and said, ‘I think you are a director.’ Sometime later he said, ‘I think you are the director of Baahubali.’ All the places Baahubali had reached were just magic,” he recalled.
Talking about how the film changed his personal life, Prabhas said, “When I wake up in a new country and people still recognise me, I call Rajamouli sir and say, ‘Won’t you allow me to travel in this lifetime? Don’t I deserve a personal life?’ Earlier we would go to Mumbai or Delhi to get away. That’s not an option anymore. Now wherever we go in the world, someone comes up and says, ‘Baahubali.’”
A decade later, the legacy of Baahubali continues to remain special in Indian cinema. The film not only established Prabhas as a Pan-India superstar but also introduced Indian cinema to audiences worldwide, making him one of the most recognised Indian actors globally.
