The Ram Charan-starrer Peddi, which was released on June 4, has completed ten days of its theatrical run. Directed by Buchi Babu Sana and produced by Venkata Satish Kilaru under the Vriddhi Cinemas banner, the film was made on a reported budget of Rs 350 crore. Janhvi Kapoor played the female lead, while Shivarajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyendu, and Boman Irani appeared in important roles.
Ram Charan played the title role of Peddi, a character who fights for the recognition and pride of his village. The actor undergoes an extreme transformation for the crossover sports drama set against a period backdrop, involving sports like cricket, wrestling, and marathon. The makers recreated the Vizianagaram backdrop with huge sets for the film.
Now, after completing a ten-day theatrical run, the film has collected a worldwide gross of more than 366 crore, according to Jio Studios. According to the tracker Sacnilk, on Saturday, the film collected Rs 8.10 crore net, recording a 51 per cent jump compared to Friday’s collections. The makers are expecting even better numbers on Sunday due to the holiday.
Interestingly, the film is managing to hold well mainly in the Telugu states, while its performance in the Hindi belt and other languages has not been as good as expected. The Hindi numbers have been particularly disappointing, with the film collecting only Rs 90 lakh net on Saturday.
As mentioned earlier, Peddi is continuing to perform strongly in the Andhra region. Another advantage for the film is that no major release arrived last week, giving it a clear window at the box office.
The overseas performance, however, has not been up to expectations. The film collected around Rs 1 crore on Saturday, taking its total overseas gross to Rs 51 crore.
Meanwhile, Chiranjeevi, father of Ram Charan, returned to Hyderabad after a long shooting schedule for his upcoming film with director Bobby Kolli and watched Peddi. He appreciated Buchi Babu Sana for making an inspiring film and also praised his son Ram Charan for his performance.
