It is well known that Vijay Sethupathi, who was last seen playing the key role in the web series Muthu Engira Kaattaan, is all set to portray the lead in Puri Jagannadh's much-anticipated SlumDog: 33 Temple Road. The film's teaser was released on Monday, showcasing Vijay Sethupathi's character as a visually impaired beggar whose real identity is kept hidden, but he is a man with a mission who is hyper-aware and fights goons effortlessly with heightened senses.
Billed as a story of "survival, rage, and destiny," the teaser has sparked massive anticipation for both the narrative and the filmmaker’s vision. SlumDog also marks Vijay Sethupathi’s first collaboration with Puri Jagannadh. However, the actor recently revealed that their association dates back nearly two decades—though the director was unaware of it at the time.
During the teaser release of the film, Vijay Sethupathi called Puri Jagannadh a "history" and explained the unknown and coincidental connection they had 22 years ago. "Both of us had an unknown connection when I worked as a junior artist for Rs 400 in M. Kumaran Son of Mahalakshmi (2004), the Tamil remake of Puri Jagannadh's Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi (2003). I told him this when we met for the first time. They shot the film in a gym behind Vadapalani Murugan temple. I went for the shoot there," he said.
The cast of SlumDog: 33 Temple Road also includes Tabu, Samyuktha Duniya Vijay Kumar, Zarina Wahab, VTV Ganesh, and Brahmaji, among others.
Harshavardhan Rameshwar, who won a National Award for his work in Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal, is on board as the film's music composer. The crew of the film also includes director of photography Sam K Naidu, editor Santosh Noozilla, and art directors Ashish Teja and Jonny Shaik.
The makers are yet to lock a release date for SlumDog: 33 Temple Road.
