Ram Charan-starrer Peddi, which was released on June 4, opened to mixed reviews and has also been surrounded by a few controversies. Directed by Buchi Babu Sana and produced by Venkata Satish Kilaru under the Vriddhi Cinemas banner, the sports drama features Janhvi Kapoor as the female lead.

Despite the mixed response, the film posted encouraging numbers on its first Sunday.

According to trade website Sacnilk, Peddi collected an estimated Rs 31.90 crore net across India on day 4 from 9,068 shows. The Sunday figures represent nearly a 10 per cent increase over Saturday's collections. With this, the film's total India gross stands at approximately Rs 187.02 crore, while the net collections have reached Rs 157.15 crore.

The overseas market also showed improvement on Sunday, with the film reportedly collecting around Rs 4 crore gross. This takes the overseas total to Rs 46 crore gross. As a result, the worldwide gross collection for the first four days has reached an impressive Rs 233.02 crore.

However, the film has struggled to make a significant impact in dubbed versions. Despite extensive promotional campaigns in cities such as Mumbai, Bhopal, Bengaluru, and Chennai, the Hindi version has not performed as expected.

The Hindi version has collected only Rs 3.85 crore net from 3,889 shows. The film was also released in Kannada, Tamil, and Malayalam, but the response in those markets has been lukewarm. Interestingly, audiences in several regions have preferred watching the Telugu version rather than the dubbed versions.

Another notable trend is the film's stronger performance in Andhra Pradesh compared to Telangana. Reports suggest that Sunday occupancy in Andhra Pradesh crossed 80 percent in several centres, while Telangana recorded around 60 percent occupancy.

The real test for Peddi now begins on Monday. The film's long-term box-office prospects will largely depend on how well it holds during the weekdays.

Made on a reported budget of around Rs 350 crore, Peddi still needs to cover significant ground before reaching its break-even mark.

The film revolves around a young tribal man who strives to secure an identity for his village and its people. His journey takes him through multiple sports, including cricket, wrestling, and marathon running, as he fights to achieve his goal.

While Ram Charan's performance has received widespread appreciation from audiences and critics alike, the film has also courted controversy over the portrayal of Janhvi Kapoor's character. Several social media users and industry observers criticized certain aspects of the character's presentation, following which director Buchi Babu Sana reportedly issued an apology addressing the concerns.
