Ravi Teja’s Irumudi, directed by Shiva Nirvana, has emerged as a strong performer at the box office, crossing the Rs 100 crore mark in India net collections within eight days of its release. The action drama, which also stars Priya Bhavani Shankar, Swasika Vijay and Sai Kumar, released in Telugu and Tamil on August 21. The film follows an alcohol-addicted father who embarks on an Ayyappa Deeksha journey at his daughter’s request, combining family drama with devotional and thriller elements.
After a steady first week, Irumudi witnessed a notable revival on its second Friday. The film collected Rs 9.70 crore net on Day 8, a 40.6% jump over the Rs 6.90 crore it earned on Day 7. The growth is particularly significant because the film entered its second week amid competition from Yash’s Toxic, which opened on August 26. With 2,516 shows and 66.3% occupancy on Friday, Irumudi showed that it continues to retain a substantial audience despite the new release.
The latest numbers take Irumudi’s India net collection to Rs 101.85 crore, while its India gross stands at Rs 118.20 crore. The film has also earned Rs 18.50 crore from overseas markets, taking its worldwide gross to ERs 36.70 crore. Interestingly, the second Friday collection is around 53% of its opening-day net, when the film made Rs 15.30 crore, indicating that its hold in the second week remains considerably stronger than its first-weekday trajectory suggested.
The film’s first week saw a gradual decline after its Rs 19 crore-plus net on Sunday, with collections falling to Rs 12.35 crore on Monday, Rs 12.20 crore on Tuesday and Rs 10.20 crore on Wednesday before dropping to Rs 6.90 crore on Thursday. However, the 40.6% Friday recovery has changed the trajectory heading into the second weekend. If the film sustains even a moderate increase over Saturday and Sunday, Irumudi could add a sizeable chunk to its India total before the second weekend concludes.
The comparison with Toxic puts the performance into perspective. Yash’s Geetu Mohandas-directed film, which is only on Day 3, has already collected Rs 165.35 crore net in India and Rs 221.45 crore worldwide, with Rs 26.60 crore net coming on Friday. Toxic has therefore earned nearly 2.7 times Irumudi’s Day 8 daily net, although the films are at very different points in their theatrical runs. Toxic itself saw a 29.3% drop on Day 3 from Rs 37.65 crore on Thursday, making its weekend performance crucial after the initial rush.
More importantly for Irumudi, the arrival of Toxic has not resulted in a collapse. Instead, its second-Friday growth suggests that the Ravi Teja-starrer has managed to carve out an audience of its own. With the Rs 100 crore India net milestone already crossed, the focus now shifts to how strongly it can capitalise on the second weekend and how much further it can stretch its theatrical run.
