Anupama Parameswaran-starrer Paradha, which had its theatrical release on August 22, had signed off with Prime Video as their streaming partner. On Friday, the film quietly dropped on the streamer, with a theatrical window of three weeks.
Directed by Praveen Kandregula, Paradha told the story of a spirited young woman from village who is compelled to undertake a journey to prove her innocence to a bunch of conservative villagers baying for her sacrifice as part of an old custom, and has a life-changing epiphany in the process. The film also starred Rag Mayur, Darshana Rajendran, and Sangitha Krish in the lead cast and Rajendra Prasad in an extended cameo. In our review for the film, we wrote, “Unlike Praveen’s previous ingenious directorial Subham, Paradha doesn't always succeed in blending the messaging and tone. Here, after a point, the narrative becomes confined as a medium for its message.”
Besides Telugu, the film was also released in Malayalam, considering Darshana’s prominence in the film. Reportedly made on a budget of Rs 15 crore, Paradha struggled to take off at the box office. The film’s worldwide boxoffice collection stand close to 1.2 crore, according to a report from Sacnilk.com.
Meanwhile, Anupama also had a release today with Kishkindhapuri, a mystery-thriller starring Bellamkonda Sreenivas in the lead.
