There has lately been much debate around limiting work hours in cinema to eight after Deepika Padukone championed the idea. The discourse became more intense after Deepika's exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit thanks to her reported demand for this schedule. While actors have been generally been in favour of the idea, some also oppose it. The other day, Rashmika Mandanna weighed in on the topic, supporting the idea of keeping a specific time schedule for actors, just like for officegoers. Speaking to Gulte as part of her upcoming film The Girlfriend, Rashmika admitted that she "overworks," and that it is "highly not suggestible" and "not sustainable" to do so. She added, "Do what is comfortable for you. Get those eight hours. Get those nine-ten hours also, because that is going to save you in the later ages."
Rashmika said that she is cognizant of the recent discourse around the matter, and that she has worked in both comfortable and strenuous schedules. "It is a responsibility that you have. I tend to overwork myself because I take on so much more than a normal human being can and should," she said. "I am also not someone who will tell my teams that I cannot do something for them," she added, noting the time and location constraints that come with certain productions.
Rashmika acknowledged that as artists, they have to accommodate with such requirements on a regular basis in cinema. At the same time, she said that if given a choice, cast and crew members should not have to work in this way, echoing a sentiment that Deepika shared a long time ago. She also underscored the importance of having time off from work to focus elsewhere, such as fitness or family life.
