The official trailer of Rashmika Mandanna’s upcoming film The Girlfriend was unveiled on Saturday. Directed by Rahul Ravindran, the film also features Dheekshith Reddy in a prominent role.
In The Girlfriend, Rashmika Mandanna plays a young girl named Bhooma who is deeply in love with a classmate (Dheekshish Shetty). Her boyfriend, however, leaves her in a constant state of anxiety about their relationship, often trying to control her behaviour while behaving like a loose cannon himself. What adds to Bhooma’s woes is her boyfriend’s bonding with Durga (Anu Emmanuel) that often borders on the romantic, proving to be a threatening existence to Bhooma’s relationship. How Bhooma struggles to break out of the turbulent relationship and what emotional toll it takes on her forms the crux of the story. The Girlfriend promises to be a rare Telugu film that unfolds from a woman's perspective, capturing her inner life with pathos and insight.
The Girlfriend also features Rao Ramesh as Bhooma’s father who is perpetually disappointed in his daughter. Veteran actor Rohini too will be seen in a prominent role.
The film sees writer-director Rahul Ravindran return to the director's chair after 6 years when he directed Manmadhudu 2. Dheeraj Mogilineni and Vidya Kopineedi are producing the film under the banners of Dheeraj Mogilineni Entertainment and Geetha Arts, while Allu Aravind is presenting the film. The music for the film is composed by Hesham Abdul Wahab, who is most known for his Hi Nanna soundtrack. Prashanth R Vihari is composing the background score.
The rest of the crew of the film includes Krishnan Vasant as the cinematographer, Chota K Prasad as the editor, and S Rama Krishna and Monika Nigotre as the production designers.
Rashmika Mandanna recently had a major pan-India release with Thamma, which has been performing well at the box office.
