Even as Teja Sajja’s latest release Mirai has performed very well at the box office, the makers of the film have decided to go for a standard 4-week theatrical window before releasing it on OTT. On Saturday, the streamer JioHotstar confirmed the same on their social page, by announcing that Mirai will begin streaming on their platform on Friday, October 10.
“Nine scriptures. Infinite power. One Superyodha to protect the Brahmand. Mirai, India’s own superhero, is coming to your home, Streaming from October 10,” JioHotstar posted on their X page.
Directed by Karthik Gattamneni, Mirai also featured Manchu Manoj as the main antagonist and Ritika Nayak as the female lead. Additionally, Shriya Saran and Jagapathi Babu were seen in prominent roles. In our review for the film, we noted, “In its best moments, Mirai truly offers a whiff of that wide-eyed, boyhood adventure spirit. But just as the story seems to take flight, the film cuts itself down with meandering diversions. The pacing stretches into drags. Mirai needed to move with a childlike energetic spirit, but it plods like an adult explaining a bedtime story after a long day at work.” However, the film also won a lot of praise for its original score (by Gowra Hari).
Produced by TG Vishwa Prasad and Krithi Prasad under People Media Factory banner, Mirai emerged as a box office success. The film had a reported budget of Rs 60 crore, despite heavy use of VFX. According to a report from Sacnilk.com, Mirai garnered 141 crores worldwide at the box office. A few days after the film’s success, the makers decided to add the ‘Vibe Undi’ song to the theatrical prints, a song that was initially planned only as a promotional video.
Mirai marks Teja Sajja’s second hit in a row, with a film that delves into both the superhero genre and mythology.
