Actor Nandu, who took a break of nearly three years, is making his comeback with a film titled Psych Siddhartha. Interestingly, he is not only playing the lead role but also producing the film himself. This marks Nandu’s debut as a producer, with the movie being directed by Varun Reddy.

“I co-wrote this story with Varun, and we initially approached a major production house,” Nandu shared. “However, they wanted us to change the lead actor. We didn’t want to compromise on the film’s aesthetic or essence, so I decided to turn producer and make the film on my own.”
Nandu revealed that he had initially planned to direct a film and had approached filmmaker Tharun Bhascker for help in finding a good writer. “That’s when Varun came on board. We worked together for a few years developing this story. Eventually, I asked him to direct while I took on the lead role,” he explained.

According to Nandu, Psych Siddhartha was made with a modest budget to preserve its authentic vibe. “If someone made this film on a large scale, the character’s essence might not come through aesthetically. So, we decided to produce it independently,” he said.

Nandu funded the project using his earnings from acting, anchoring, and sports commentary. “Everyone around me encouraged me a lot—especially my wife, Geetha Madhuri,” he added with gratitude.

In a major achievement, veteran producer Suresh Babu has acquired the film after watching it. “After seeing the final cut, Suresh Babu garu decided to take over the film, and I even made a table profit. Rana Daggubati also watched it and appreciated our work,” Nandu said proudly.

The actor-producer also shared that they kept production costs minimal by using available resources and shooting mostly in real locations. “We shot primarily in Shaikpet, renting a house and filming in the penthouse and nearby streets,” he said.

Yamini Bhaskar plays the female lead in Psych Siddhartha, while Smaran has composed the music.
