The first teaser of upcoming sports action-drama Champion was unveiled on Saturday. Roshan Meka, son of veteran actor Srikanth Meka, will headline the film.

Written and directed by Pradeep Advaitham, Champion promises to be a riveting story set in the period of India under British rule. Roshan here plays a fearless young footballer named Michael C Williams who finds himself in a direct altercation with the British over their oppressive ways. How Michael uses his passion for the sport to rebel against the British forms the crux of the story. Pradeep Advaitham has previously worked as a creator on the popular web series Save The Tigers.

The teaser also surprises with its occasional use of strong language, preparing audience for a film that should be gritty and realistic, while also stylistic in its execution.

Roshan Meka makes his comeback to the big screen after his debut Pelli SandaD, which released in 2021 and also starred Sreeleela. Champion also marks Telugu debut for Anaswara Rajan, a popular Malayalam actor known for films like Super Sharanya and Rekhachithram.

The film is produced by Priyanka Dutt, GK Mohan and Gemini Kiran. Mickey J Meyer, who previously composed music for Nani starrer Hit 3, is the music director. Veterans like production designer Thota Tharani and action director Peter Hein are onboard for the film as well.

Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao is the editor, and Madhie is the cinematographer. Rutham Samar, and Sai Krishna Donepudi has been credited as the co-director. Interestingly, the makers also credited Venu Gopal for the concept and storyboarding, a rarity for any Indian film industry.

Champion is slated for a theatrical release on December 25, clashing against many films including Aadi Saikumar’s Shambhala, which too had its trailer release today.
