Kannada star Upendra will be seen playing a major role in the upcoming Ram Pothineni-starrer, tentatively titled RAPO22. The makers announced the news of him onboarding the project on Monday.
In RAPO22, Upendra will be seen playing the role of Surya Kumar. The makers also unveiled a special character poster on the occasion, featuring Upendra exuding swag as he stands amidst a horde of people. The actor seemingly plays a celebrity figure in the film, as opposed to Ram Pothineni’s common man protagonist.
RAPO22 is directed by Mahesh Babu P, who previously directed the 2023 rom-com Miss Shetty Mr Polishetty. Mahesh Babu has also penned the story and screenplay for his film. The film additionally stars Bhagyashri Borse in the lead cast and popular names like Rahul Ramakrishna, Rao Ramesh, Murali Sharma, Satya, and VTV Ganesh in the ensemble cast.
Naveen Yerneni and Y Ravi Shankar are producing the film under the Mythri Movie Makers banner, marking their first collaboration with Ram Pothineni. The technical team includes Avinash Kolla as the production designer and Sreekar Prasad as the editor. Siddharth Nuni is the cinematographer, while Vivek-Mervin have been signed to compose music for the film.
The title glimpse of the film will be unveiled on Thursday, May 15.
Upendra has previously worked in several Telugu movies, most notably in Allu Arjun-starrer S/O Satyamurthy, Toss, and Raa. Additionally, early in his career, he also directed the 1997 film Omkaram.
