Balakrishna-starrer Daaku Maharaaj, which had a theatrical release in Telugu on Sunday, is now gearing up for its Tamil release. The action drama, directed by Bobby Kolli, will hit theatres in Tamil Nadu on Friday, January 17.
During a recent media interaction, producer Naga Vamsi had stated that the film could not be released in Tamil and Hindi on January 12 due to dubbing and censorship formalities. In its Telugu version release, the film has been performing very well. As of Wednesday, the film has garnered Rs Rs 59 crore nett at the domestic boxoffice. Meanwhile, its overseas collections currently stand at nearly 17 crores, according to a report by Sacnilk.com.
Also starring Shraddha Srinath, Bobby Deol and Pragya Jaiswal among others, Daaku Maharaaj tells the story of an earnest civil engineer named Sitaram who is compelled to become a dacoit after being witnessed oppression in a rural place in Madhya Pradesh, and being denied any systematic support to help the locals. This is the first collaboration between Balakrishna and Bobby Kolli.
