The Raja Saab distribution still pending, makers consider independent release

The producer of The Raja Saab is quoting high prices, leading to a lack of interest from potential buyers

The much-anticipated Prabhas starrer The Raja Saab is scheduled to release on January 9. However, the makers have confirmed that they will hold screening premieres a day earlier, on January 8. Directed by Maruthi and produced by TG Vishwa Prasad, this high-budget film has generated considerable buzz.

According to a source, the film's business is still not finalised, and the makers are considering an independent release. “They’re asking for very high rates across all areas, which has led to a lack of interest from distributors. With so many films releasing around the same time, no one is eager to buy the rights," said a distributor, who wished to remain anonymous. This distributor had recently purchased the rights for Akhanda 2 (starring Balakrishna) in a particular area of Andhra Pradesh, only to face significant losses.

As a result, distributors are torn about buying the rights for The Raja Saab, as the producer's asking prices for individual areas remain steep. Additionally, the promotional content for the film has not been well received, with many criticising it for failing to generate positive buzz.

The film’s production has been delayed multiple times. Initially planned for release last year, The Raja Saab was then slated for Sankranthi but faced further postponements. After several revised release dates, it is now confirmed to hit screens on January 9 next year.

Another setback came with the recent release of the film’s song, which failed to impress audiences, including Prabhas' fans. On social media, many have openly criticized Prabhas’ appearance in the track.

It is also widely known that the makers used Prabhas’ body double for several scenes, a piece of information that circulated online and further dampened enthusiasm. This has become another significant factor contributing to buyers' reluctance to engage with the film.

“Considering all these factors, the production company, People Media Factory, has decided to release the film independently unless a buyer offers a high price for some areas,” the source added.

The film features three female leads: Nidhhi Agerwal, Malavika Mohanan, and Riddhi Kumar. Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt plays an important role, and S. Thaman has composed the music.
