On Monday, Jr JTR filed a petition at the Delhi High Court, seeking relief against many e-commerce platforms and social media companies using material defamatory in nature, in effect seeking protection of personality rights.
Jr JTR’s advocate informed the High court about several instances which used the Devara actor’s images without his permission, infringing his personality rights.
Meanwhile, the Court accepted this complaint under Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021, and gave the said firms and platforms in question 3 days to rectify the situation. The next hearing in this case will be held on December 22, which is when a comprehensive order about Jr NTR’s personality rights will be issued as well.
Earlier this year, many notable film personalities like Chiranjeevi, Nagarjuna, Abhishek Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Kumar Sanu and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan approached the court for personality rights’ protection.
It is to be noted that while hearing the personality rights’ case for Ajay Devgn on November 27, the court had stated that the parties approaching the Court must first avail the statutory remedies under the 2021 IT Rules and ask the social media intermediaries to act on their grievance regarding removal of defamatory and derogatory material.
