Praveen Kandregula, who has made films like Cinema Bandi and Subham, is gearing up for its next release, the Anupama Parmeswaran starrer Paradha. A grand pre-release event was held for the film on Sunday. On the occasion, the filmmaker spoke with a lot of zest about the dire need for more Telugu films centred around women.
Praveen Kandregula stated, “We make about 250 Telugu films a year. Out of those only 4-5 films are about women’s stories at best. With Paradha, I want to start a new era for our industry. Besides Paradha, I also want films like Ghaati and The Girlfriend to be commercial successes. I really want my film to be a hope for all the producers.”
Talking about the significance of his film, which also stars Darshana Rajendran, Praveen noted, “No matter what anyone says, Telugu industry is male dominated industry. But not every story needs to revolve around hero. We have many stories about women which are also entertaining. We need women cinema, and we need boxoffice success for these films, not just awards.
Further talking about his film, Praveen mentioned that they have created a fictional town as the backdrop for Paradha. He also added, “Don’t miss the first 10 minutes of Paradha.”
Besides Telugu, Paradha is also releasing in Malayalam, with Dulquer Salmaan distributing the film in the Kerala market under Wayfarer Films. The filmis produced by Vijay Donkada, Sreenivasulu PV, Sridhar Makkuva under Ananda Media banner.
The lead cast of Paradha also includes Rag Mayur, Sangitha Krish, Rajendra Prasad and Harsha Vardhan. Poojitha Sreekanti and Prahaas Boppudi have written the script. In a rare initiative, the makers have also credited its script doctor ‘Krishna Prathyusha.’ The music direction and lyrics are by Gopi Sundar and Vanamali, respective.
In the technical team, Mridul Sujit Sen returns as the cinematographer for Praveen Kandregula after Subham. Dharmendra Kakarala and Poojia Tadikonda are in charge of editing and costumes, respectively. Srinivas Kalinga is the art director.
