Senior lyricist Gurucharan passed away on Thursday from severe illness. He had reportedly been admitted to the hospital the last few weeks and couldn’t recover. Gurucharan is famous for sad, evergreen songs that he contributed to Telugu cinema.

Gurucharan wrote mostly for films of actor Mohan Babu; he penned the lyrics for classic hits like ‘Muddabanti Puvvulo’ from Alludugaru (1990), ‘Kunthi Kumari,’ ‘Boyavani Vetaku Gaayapadda Koyila’ from Rowdy Gari Pellam (1991). His lyrics were layered and noted for tragic overtones. He is said to have written more than two hundred songs in Telugu. Gurucharan is famously known as a protege of another acclaimed lyricist, Acharya Athreya.

Many celebrities are expressing condolences to the lyricist's family.
