Kamal Haasan, along with director Shankar and actors Siddharth and Rakul Preet Singh, was present in Hyderabad on Monday to promote his upcoming film Indian 2, an official sequel to the 1996 film Indian, which too starred the veteran actor. On the occasion, the actor spoke about his association with Telugu cinema and its role in creating his stardom. 

Addressing the media, Kamal Haasan stated, “My actual stardom started in Andhra, in Telugu cinema. I was doing many films but didn't get that break. It came through Maro Charitra (1978). From there on, my Telugu record has been impeccable.”

The Indian 2 actor also said that, compared to his stint in Malayalam and Hindi cinema, his Telugu film record has been ‘very lucky.’ He added, “Look at the line-up. I did films like Aakali Rajyam and Indrudu Chandrudu, and so many films with K Vishwanath. I met the right kind of people. It just happened.” Kamal Haasan’s last Telugu language film was the 1995 release Subha Sankalpam. Additionally, in the last couple of years, he also worked in bilingual movies like Thoonga Vanam and Eenadu, which released in both Tamil and Telugu.
