Vishnu Manchu's dream project, Kannappa, was launched with a pooja ceremony recently. The film, titled Kannappa – A True Epic Indian Tale, will feature Vishnu as the ardent devotee of Lord Shiva, Kannappa. 

Earlier, it was reported that Nupur Sanon, the younger sister of Kriti Sanon, will be playing the female lead. However, Vishnu announced that the actor had to step down from the project. 

Taking to his official X handle on Thursday, he wrote, "Sad to announce that lovely Nupur Sanon had to step down from Kannappa due to scheduling conflicts. We'll miss her, but the hunt for our new leading lady begins! Sending Nupur our best wishes on her other commitments. Hope to work with her in the near future."

Kannappa is helmed by Mukesh Kumar Singh.  Dr. Mohan Babu is backing the film under the  24 Frames Factory and AVA Entertainment banners. Recently reports suggested that Prabhas has also been roped into the film to play the role of Lord Shiva. However, the makers are yet to confirm the news. 

Manisharma and Stephen Devassay will be composing music for Kannappa, which will feature cinematography by  Sheldon Shau and art direction by Chinna. The makers of Kannappa are yet to reveal more information about the rest of the cast and crew of the film.
