Kushi, a recent romantic drama directed by Shiva Nirvana, starring Vijay Deverakonda and Samantha in the lead roles earned ₹30.1 crore gross worldwide on the day of its release.

The film also stars Rahul Ramakrishna, Saranya Ponvannan, Sharanya Pradeep, Sachin Khedekar, Murali Sharma, Lakshmi, Rohini, Jayaram and Srikanth Ayyengar in supporting roles. This is Shiva Nirvana's fourth film, after Ninnu Kori, Majili and Tuck Jagadish. While Kushi marks the maiden collaboration of Shiva and Vijay, Samantha has previously worked with the director in Majili. 

The film, a romance between a girl from an extremely religious family and a boy from a militantly atheist one, opened to mixed to positive reviews. The Cinema Express' review of the film reads, "largely, this film about an ideological clash offers little to reflect on—and this story about dreamy-love-leading-to-marital-distress creates little emotional resonance."
