Rashmika Mandanna joins hands with Rahul Ravindran for The Girlfriend

CE Features

Chi La Sow director Rahul Ravindran is back at the director's chair after 4 years, with The Girlfriend. Starring Rashmika Mandanna in the lead role, the film is backed by Vidya Koppineedi and Dheeraj Mogilineni. The film will be presented by Allu Aravind under his Geetha Arts banner.

The makers also released a title glimpse along with the announcement. The video starts with a voiceover in Telugu that goes, "I love her so much that she doesn't need friends, family or anyone else. I am all she needs. I just want her to be with me 24/7. To have a girl I can call MINE." The voiceover ends in silence, and a video featuring Rashmika. She is seen deep inside a water body like a lake, upset and suffocating, and finally not being able to breathe at all.

While the makers are yet to reveal more details about the rest of the cast, they also announced that The Girlfriend is all set to go on floors soon. From the title look, the film seems to revolve around possessiveness and the extent to which it can go, in a relationship.

The technical crew of The Girlfriend consists of music composer Hesham Abdul Wahab, cinematographer Krishnan Vasant and production designers S. Ramakrishna and Monika Nigotre.

Rahul Ravindran last helmed Manmudhudu 2 starring Nagarjuna, which hit theatres in 2019. On the acting front, he was seen in the Tamil version of The Great Indian Kitchen, in which he plays Aishwarya Rajesh's husband.

Rashmika, on the other hand, was last seen in Mission Majnu. She has Animal, Rainbow and Pushpa: The Rule in her pipeline.
