MM Sreelekha, who last composed the song Urike Urike from the film HIT 2 recently completed 25 years in the Indian film industry as a music composer. To celebrate that milestone, an event was conducted recently to honor her contributions. The event was attended by screenwriter V Vijayendra Prasad, music director Koti, comedian Ali, filmmakers Muppala Neni Shiva, Chandra Mahesh and Venu Sri Rangam and lyricists Chandrabose and Bhaskarbhatla, among others.
Starting her career at an age of 12 in the 1994 Tamil film Naalaiya Theerupu, which was incidentally also the debut film of actor Vijay, she later went on to compose music for Telugu films like Taj Mahal (1995) and Nannagaru (1995). The latter film was directed by Dasari Narayana Rao. MM Sreelekha is the first cousin of composers MM Keeravani and Kalyani Malik and filmmaker SS Rajamouli. She has gone on to compose music for over 80 films in five languages over the course of two decades, and during this period, she had an enduring collaboration with the Suresh Productions banner, composing music for them in 13 films.
MM Sreelekha also announced at the event that she will soon be travelling with 25 musicians across 25 different countries in Europe, Africa, North America and South East Asia for a world music tour, which will commence on March 17. The poster for this world music tour was launched by SS Rajamouli.
MM Sreelekha thanked all the people who supported through the years and said, “I have never worked for money. I have only worked for my own self-satisfaction and the happiness of my fans. There were times when I even used my own money to buy music equipment. Which probably explains why I still live in a rented house. I am very happy and grateful for spending 25 years of my life composing music.”
